Raudales-jumps

Both the Orinoco like all other rivers in Amazonas State have their water courses more or less interrupted by waterfalls, streams or jets, which can be more or less important, as taking into account your height and beauty, strength and bulk or hilly course to impede navigation.

The Orinoco near the headwaters, where non-navigable part is, upstream, jumping Guaharibos, Peñascal or Waic, Salas, Codazzi, Michelena y Rojas, Cajigal, Aristides Rojas, Shama, Bobadilla, hats, Dickey, Liberator and the thundering Falls other children, in the middle of The Dead rapid and Santa Barbara and the main, the Atures and Maipures, interrupting navigation.

The set of rapids grouped under the name Atures (Mapara) are scattered in an area of about 8 km., From the first named Vulture, climbing up Tapurero, a difference of about 10 m height difference. Following the river comes the comeback after a relatively quiet about 30 km. Further south is another set of rapids that are in the area Maipures (Kituna), which has about 14 jets differentiated by their names, being the most important lean and imposing. They are organized in about 6 kms. a channel and have been measured a level difference of about 12 meters. Atures (Mapara) and Maipures (Kituna) to interrupt the passage, are the natural boundary between the Lower and Upper Orinoco Orinoco (Orinoco middle).

There are studies and projects to facilitate the passage of these streams. A railroad from Puerto Ayacucho to harbor deer is a very valid alternative, the second on the giant blasting of rocks blocking the passage of water flow, which should be very carefully considered and calculated in a very long, because this could create other problems of a hydrological, to destroy the retention capacity of these rocks, since they exercise control over the river runoff.

The river has 3 big jumps Ventuari competing in power and majestic beauty: Monkey, Bear and Tencua, most importantly, to where the river is easily navigable. Paru River has many since birth, but the last of the same name of the river, is the most beautiful, a veritable natural monument in addition to the Paru is navigable here. The most important river in its lower Cunucunuma would Casurúa, Picure and Culebra. The low Ocamo to navigate to the rapids of Ara-ta (Macaw). In Padamo: Horse, Continamo, Spanish, Macutza, Cua. Chirinos Parucito River with rapids and Solomon. In Sipapo and tributaries in the lower scored Caldero, Danto, Bat, Blindness, Sloth. The most important Casiquiare Cabarúa also Mabajate, Kiragüeni and Chapazón.

In Atabapo are Guarinuma and Chamuchina; in Guainía: Deer, Paso del Diablo, Corocoro, Earthworm. Also Yutaje monumental twin waterfalls on the river and hill Yutajé, Manapiare valleys. Although the leap Picuries in a hidden corner of Mount Marahuaca, is the highest of the Amazon.

These jumps and waterfalls are just some of the Amazon has not exploited in any way so far. Make up a large hydroelectric potential. What is lost, worth thousands of kw. per km2., capable of generating power to supply the country.

The hydroelectric potential of the Amazon is estimated at 30% of the national total, almost all located south of the Orinoco. One of the 3 great leaps that have Ventuari, is the largest volume Tencua jump. We have studied the generation capacity at one of its free fall with about 20 meters, calculating a capacity of 14,500 kw. This jump has other large waterfalls.

One of the projects launched by CODESUR was possible to use the hydroelectric potential of small and medium jumps, installing small hydroelectric plants.

CODESUR in the same study on "water potential of TFA believes that these rivers" are a potential resource and from various points of view represent: a re ¬ serva water for different purposes, a reserve of aquatic wildlife, hydropower potential a means of communication, a means of boundary demarcation.
