The Amazon is the part of South America drained by the Amazon River and its tributaries. The basin is located mainly (40%) in Brazil and Venezuela, but also extends into Peru and several other countries. The South American rain forests of the Amazon is the world's largest, covering about 8,235,430 km2, with a dense tropical jungle. For centuries, this has protected the area and the animals that live there. Not all large plants and animals living in the Amazon basin are known for their large areas unexplored.

Nobody knows how many species of fish in the river. " Plant growth is dense due to heavy rains. The Amazon River basin has an equatorial climate. Annual rain fall is about 1500-2500 mm. Daytime temperatures often reach 30-35 ° C, while night temperatures reach 20-25 ° C.

Amazon is sparsely populated. There are scattered settlements in the interior, but most people live in big cities, some on the banks of the Amazon and other large rivers, such as Iguitus (Peru), Manaus, Belém. In many regions, some of the inhabitants of the harvest of wild rubber and Brazil nuts. The Amazon basin is surrounded by the Guiana Highlands to the north and the Brazilian Highlands to the south. The Amazon, rising in the Andes in the west of the basin, is the second longest river in the world. It covers a distance of about 6,400 km before draining into the Atlantic Ocean.
